Recycling is a legal requirement for all business locations.
In Somerset County small businesses with between one and 50 employees are allowed to drop off materials at:
Somerset County Recycling Center
40 Polhemus Lane
M-F, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
The types of materials that will be accepted at the Recycling Center are newspapers; cardboard and chipboard; commingled containers, which include glass bottles, plastics bottles (marked with a #1 or #2), and steel, bi-metal, and aluminum cans. Bring recyclable items in a cardboard box or bucket.
The following items will not be accepted: electronic waste, scrap metal, tires, plastic bags, chemicals, or hazardous materials.
There will be no reimbursement for recyclable materials dropped off. For additional information, call the Somerset County Recycling Center at 732-469-3363.
True Value Hardware of Montgomery (in ShopRite Shopping Center), Home Depot, and Lowes provide free collection centers in their stores.

NO Batteries will be accepted. Household batteries may be disposed of in the regular trash. Bring lithium and rechargeable batteries to Somerset County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

The PSE&G Appliance Recycling Program that offered rebates and free pick-up has been discontinued for 2023. Check the PSE&G website to see if it will be offered again next year.

There is a white walk-in medical waste drop box in the Montgomery Municipal Center, in the lobby to the right of the Police entrance. This location is open for use any time that municipal offices or the library are open.
In conjunction with Somerset County’s Household Hazardous Waste Program, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office hosts its Rx Mission Drive-in/Drop-Off program at several permanent locations. There is also an annual national Take-Back Day. See the following local and national information:

Operation Secure Shred events are held at various convenient locations and open to all residents of Somerset County. Please bring some form of identification which establishes your Somerset County residency. All paper documents and cardstock folders are acceptable.
Please No Magazines, Newspapers, Junk Mail, or Bulk Rate Mail
It is not necessary to remove staples or paperclips. Shredding can be done in front of you while you wait and all containers can be returned. For more information, please contact 908-203-6018.

Plastic Toys, Gently Used
Montgomery Township Department of Public Works and Second Chance Toys have teamed up to collect your gently used plastic toys for children in need. This is being done on an ongoing basis.
Toys Accepted: Plastic, clean, no missing parts, batteries function.
Not Accepted: Stuffed animals, slides, pools, sand boxes, car seats, fast food premiums.
The following will accept waste oil in our area. Call before you go to make sure they are open and accepting oil at this time.
- Montgomery Township Municipal Garage (during container facility open days). A five (5) gallon limit per visit. Oil only – no filters or antifreeze.
- Car Parts on Amwell Road (908) 874-7550, Hapi Auto Parts on Amwell Road (908) 359-2300, or STS Car Service Center, Route 206 (609) 921-8200
- Somerset County Recycling Center (8:00 a.m.- noon, first Saturday of each month). The County will also accept filters and antifreeze.
Tires are not taken at the Container Facility but may be dropped off on the first Saturday of the month at the County Recycling Center at 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater from 8:00 a.m. until noon. There is an eight (8) tire maximum at any one time. There are also special tire recycling events at various locations throughout the year.
