Summer Sounds Concert Series at Mary Jacobs Library

Back by popular demand, the Summer Sounds outdoor concert series will return to Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s Mary Jacobs Memorial Library branch, located at 64 Washington Street in Rocky Hill, every Tuesday, June 30-August 4. All shows begin promptly at 6:30 pm on the lawn behind the library and are made possible by The Friends of the Mary Jacobs Library. No registration is required but it is helpful to the library (see links below).

“This is the third year for the Summer Sounds Concert series and we are really excited,” said Cynthia Lambert, an adult services librarian at SCLSNJ’s Mary Jacobs Memorial Library branch.  “The audience has been growing over the years, especially for the local acts. So this year, all six bands are local bands – three from Montgomery, one from Rocky Hill, one from Princeton, and the furthest to travel come from Somerville.”

Blawenburg Dixieland Band will perform June 30. Conducted by Jerry Rife, Blawenburg Dixieland Band brings to life the sounds of New Orleans Jazz while the musicians change instruments and share stories. See photo below. For more information:

Perfectly Sharp will perform July 7. This jazz combo consists of five Montgomery High School students: Nick Ng on saxophone, Joey Lockwood on trumpet, Ben Fortunato on guitar, Jeremy Fortunato on drums, and Jon Garaffa on bass. See photo below. For more information:

Princeton-based folk-duo Damsel will perform July 14. Damsel are an indie/neo/folk duo featuring Beth Meyers (vocals, violin, ukulele, and banjo) and Monica Mugan (vocals and guitar).  They specialize in adapting cover songs to highlight their acoustic instruments and ethereal harmonies. B-Flat Duo will perform July 21. Led by Belle Mead-resident Chris Aggabao, a rising recording artist and student at Westminster Choir College, B-Flat Duo is joining the Summer Sounds line-up this year.  Joining Chris is trumpeter Devenny Bennett of Bridgewater, a student at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. B-Flat Duo performs rock and jazz standards and original compositions. See photo below. For more information:

Rocky Hill Ramblers will perform July 28. This three-piece band performs rock, folk, and country from the 60s and 70s. This local great local band features Jennifer Hayden on fiddle and vocals, Steve Hayden on bass and guitar, and Andrew O’Conner on guitar and vocals.  See photo below. For more information:

For the final concert of the summer, Fitz Circle will return to SCLSNJ’s Mary Jacobs Memorial Library branch on August 4. Fitz Circle performs acoustic interpretations of Irish Folk music old and new—everything from The Dubliners to U2 will be included. See photo below. For more information:

In the event of rain, shows will be moved inside SCLSNJ’s Mary Jacobs Memorial Library branch. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.  Lawn chairs, blankets, picnics, and dancing are encouraged. For more information or to register to attend, visit  or call 609-924-7073.
