Sign Up for Emergency Alerts from Somerset County & Montgomery TownshipPosted on May 24, 2016
Hurricane season in New Jersey starts June 1 and runs through Nov. 1. Now is the time to register for free emergency alerts, in case severe weather affects our area.
Freeholder Director Patricia Walsh and Sheriff Frank Provenzano remind residents that they can find out about emergency county road closings, program cancellations or service delays by signing up for free bulletins from Somerset County.
“It’s important to stay informed during severe-weather events,” Freeholder Director Walsh said. “In addition to email and text alerts, our homepage at www.co.somerset.nj.us will have direct links to the most up-to-date information.”
“The public’s safety is our number-one priority,” said Sheriff Provenzano. “We encourage residents to be proactive and take advantage of this quick, easy and free way to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe.”
As part of the redesigned county website, Somerset County now is using Nixle.com to send emergency email bulletins and text alerts.
These include closure of county-owned roads and bridges; flood watches and warnings; and county program delays or closings, such as senior centers, transportation services and Meals on Wheels.
To sign up, visit http://bit.ly/SCNixle and enter your email address, cell phone number or both. You also can sign up for text alerts by texting the keyword SCNJALERTS to 888777. If you are already receiving emergency-alert emails or texts from Somerset County, there is no need to re-register. Although the alerts service is free, text-messaging charges from your wireless carrier may apply.
