Proposed Gas Compressor Station in Franklin Twp. – Environmental Impact StudyPosted on November 1, 2016
The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) announced recently that they will prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) that will discuss the environmental impacts of the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project involving construction and operation of facilities by Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC (Transco) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; Somerset and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey; and in State of New Jersey and State of New York marine waters in Raritan Bay and Lower New York Bay. The Commission will use this EIS in its decision-making process to determine whether the project is in the public convenience and necessity.
As part of this proposed project, the study will consider environmental impacts from the proposed construction of a 32,000 HP Gas Compressor Station (Compressor Station #206), with several alternative locations being considered, including near the entrance to Trap Rock Quarry and Princeton Walk Community on Rt. 27 in Franklin Township, NJ.
FERC has assigned this project Docket No. PF16-5-000. The period for public comments on the Intent to prepare the EIS has closed, but below is the FERC Notice for background. For further information, go to www.ferc.gov
It is anticipated that several public scoping sessions will be conducted by FERC and a new comment period will occur when the Environmental Impact Statement is completed. The timeframe for the scheduling of such meetings is unknown at this time, but public meetings/scoping sessions are announcements on the FERC website at www.ferc.gov/EventCalendar/EventsList.aspx .
