Photos of Veterans Day ObservancePosted on November 24, 2014
Montgomery Township’s Veterans Memorial Committee (MVMC) did a fine job of planning this year’s Veteran’s Day Procession to and Observance at the Veterans Memorial at Montgomery Park. The event began at 3 pm on November 11th with Montgomery Police Capt. James Curry playing “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes. Next was a procession down Harlingen Road led by the flagbearers of Fire Company #2 which included the Montgomery High School Marching Band, Montgomery Emergency Medical Services, and both Montgomery Fire Co. #1 and #2.
Back at the Memorial, Montgomery Boy Scout Troop # 850 presented the colors and the marching band performed the national anthem. Co-chair Robert Kress made opening remarks, and co-chair Louise Wilson introduced first speaker, Navy Veteran Peter Rayner, a former Business Administrator of Montgomery Township. The next speaker was highly decorated Col. Emil Philibosian. Many veterans and their families and others who felt appreciation for U.S. veterans attended the event. The Montgomery High School Marching band played several stirring renditions. Mayor Richard Smith made closing remarks. Taps was played by a selection of brass from the marching band. A color guard from Troop 850 retired the colors to close the ceremony.
