Shredding Documents Helps Protect Against Identity Theft

The event will occur rain or shine

Shred personal documents for free with Operation Secure Shred on Saturday, March 27, at the Somerset County Public Works Garage, South County Facility located at 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the trucks are filled. The event will be held rain or shine.

“Last year there were more than 3 million reports of identity theft and fraud,” said Commissioner Melonie Marano, Public Works liaison. “Identity theft can potentially cost victims thousands of dollars, and hours of time spent repairing their credit. Operation Secure Shred is a free and valuable service that can help protect residents from being a victim of this type of crime.”

Social Distancing
To comply with social distancing guidelines, residents must wear facial coverings and should be prepared to unload their items from their vehicle. Staff will be available to assist residents, if necessary.

Proof of Residency
Residents must be prepared to present a current driver’s license, valid lease, tax bill, or any other bill that shows proof of residency at a Somerset County address. Pre-registration is not required. Businesses and commercial vehicles are NOT allowed.

Residents from any of Somerset County’s twenty one municipalities can attend as many shredding events as they like and even if they are not residents of the town hosting the event. To view a list of shredding events, visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/shredding.
