Next Household Hazardous Waste Day – July 25

Adherence to social distancing guidelines is required. Residents must wear gloves and facial coverings, stay in their vehicles with the windows rolled up and store hazardous materials in trunks or truck beds.

The Somerset County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program gives residents and farmers a legal and cost-free way to dispose of unwanted household items that cannot be disposed of in the regular trash. This drop-off opportunity is for residents only.No registration is necessary, but proof of Somerset County residency is required.

Five events are held annually at various locations around the county from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enable residents to take advantage of the program. Following is the remaining 2020 schedule:

Household hazardous waste includes banned or outdated pesticides, antifreeze, transmission fluid, brake fluids, wet-cell car batteries, motor oil (2-gallon maximum), used oil filters, fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent lights, ammonia-based cleaners, gasoline, kerosene, mercury switches, mercury, helium balloon tanks, fire extinguishers, used cooking oil, oil-based paints, pool chemicals, barbecue propane tanks and rechargeable and button-cell batteries.

DO NOT drop off tires, or electronics (computers and televisions), infectious waste, gas cylinders, or smoke detectors. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers will NOT be accepted. No commercial vehicles are allowed.
