Municipal Courts Suspended for 2 wksPosted on March 14, 2020
New Jersey municipal courts will begin a two-week suspension starting Monday, state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner announced Saturday.
[According to a 3/14/20 Courier News article], anyone scheduled to appear in municipal court between March 16 and March 27 should not appear and should await notice of a new court date, Rabner said.
The move is one of a host of cancellations announced by New Jersey officials this week over coronavrius, or COVID-19. Gov. Phil Murphy said Thursday that all events with over 250 people should be stopped
Municipal court offices will remain open during the two-week period, unless the municipality has closed the court building. Some matters will continue, including cases where a defendant has been detained, probable cause determinations and applications for temporary restraining orders, Rabner said.
If attorneys or other parties are required to appear during the suspension, they will be notified.
