Montgomery Recognized as a 2020 Smart Workplace

Posted on November 10, 2020

The New Jersey Smart Workplaces program of the Greater Mercer TMA recognizes employers who demonstrate leadership by providing and promoting quality commuter benefits to their employees that reduce congestion and improve air quality.  This year telecommuting was at the top of the list for so many businesses out of necessity.   We want to continue to recognize our NJSW awardees who even pre-pandemic were offering benefits, such as telecommuting, that created an environment where employees could choose more sustainable commute options.  Looking ahead, we hope that when full office openings resume, that the increased awareness of the benefits of greener commuting will result in commuter benefits for employees being more widely offered as demonstrated by the NJSW awardees.  Their offerings are impressive and include benefits such as cash incentives for carpooling and vanpooling, free NJ Transit bus passes, rail station shuttles, a corporate bike fleet and bike maintenance tools, telecommuting programs, and EV charging stations.

There are four levels of distinction for the NJSW award: bronze, silver, gold and platinum.  Montgomery Township was recognized at the silver level.  These distinctions are based on the number and type of benefits that are offered, with Platinum being the highest level of distinction.  All levels show a commitment to sustainability.
