Kamran Quraishi has been chosen by Montgomery Township Committee to join their leadership team. Christine Madrid was selected by the Committee to serve as mayor and Patricia Graham will replace Christine as deputy mayor. This closes a brief vacancy due to the resignation of member Mark Conforti which was prompted by his family’s upcoming move to Florida.

Oaths of office followed the voting by the members at the start of the August 16th Twp. Committee meeting.  Somerset County Freeholder Mark Caliguire performed the swearings-in.

Christine Madrid expressed enthusiasm for her new mayoral role and applauded Kamran Quraishi’s choice for Township Committee.

Christine Madrid is sworn-in as Mayor of Montgomery Township by Freeholder Mark Caliguire.

“I look forward to serving as Mayor for the rest of 2018 and welcome Kamran to the Township Committee team.  We will continue to protect and enhance our exceptional quality of life in town and make our fellow residents proud,” she said. Christine Madrid has served on the Township Committee since 2012 and was Montgomery’s Mayor in 2015.

Upon taking the oath of office for his new leadership position, Mr. Quraishi stated, “I am humbled and honored that my new colleagues on the governing body and the local Republican team have given me the opportunity to serve on Township Committee,” Kamran stated.  “I will do my best to make our town an even better place to live, work and raise a family by keeping taxes low, our neighborhoods safe, and our community a welcoming place for all.”

Kamran shared his deep interest in serving the Montgomery community and the recent catalyst to action. He said, “Earlier this year, my family and I experienced a bias incident at our house.  While it was deeply unsettling; the comforting, supportive, and positive response from my neighbors, police, and our local elected officials was nothing short of remarkable. As a resident of Montgomery for 19 years, community involvement has always been important to me, but after this event I felt compelled to do more and give back to the community my family and I love and call home.”

Newly selected Montgomery Twp. Committee member Kamran Quraishi is administered the oath of office by Freeholder Mark Caliguire, while Kamran’s son watches with pride.

Kamran has been a resident of Pike Run since 2000.  He is a current member of the Montgomery Twp. Zoning Board.  Married with two children in Montgomery public schools, he also is a founding member of the Monty Cricket Club.

Deputy Mayor Patricia Graham is a seasoned elected official who has served on the Township Committee without interruption since 2011 with previous stints as both mayor and deputy mayor.
