Important Service Update from NJ American Water

Posted on March 22, 2021

Message from NJ American Water:

New Jersey American Water continues to invest in water infrastructure projects within our central New Jersey operating area including significant capital investments at our Raritan-Millstone Water Treatment Plant (RMWTP), which supplies water to your area.

To facilitate an ongoing, multi-year water filter rehabilitation project at the RMWTP, a short-term treatment capacity reduction is required to install new equipment at the water treatment plant. The planned capacity reduction may result in periodic changes in water flow throughout the water distribution system in your area over the short duration of this planned construction event.

Customers within your community may experience a slight decrease in water pressure and possible discolored or cloudy water between Tuesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 25. We are communicating with customers through our Code Red notification system, as well as through social media and our website. We would appreciate your sharing this information on your website and social media as well.

Customers are being advised if they experience discolored water to run the cold water taps only, at the lowest level of the house, for about 3-5 minutes until the water runs clear. They will receive another notification should additional action be required, or conditions change, or when repairs have been completed.

We are working closely with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, local OEMs, and our bulk water customers to help continue to provide service to customers while our teams complete this important work.
