Hunterdon Cty 4-H Fair Features Dirt Racing TributePosted on August 21, 2017
The Flemington Speedway Historical Society will have its exhibit at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair, which will be held Wednesday-Sunday, Aug. 23-27 at the county fairgrounds on Route 179, just south of Ringoes.
The Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair is successor to the Flemington Fair, which was held for decades at the same location on Route 31 in Raritan Township as the Flemington Speedway.
At its peak, the Speedway was recognized as one of the top tracks for modified stock cars in the nation, earning the nickname “Modified Country, USA.” For years, the Flemington Speedway hosted the National Dirt Track Championship for modified cars.
In addition to a display of restored and “tribute” race cars for the duration of the fair, the Flemington Speedway Historical Society will present “Race Day at the Fair” on Aug. 27, the annual reunion of drivers, car owners, and pit crew members.
This year, there will be an autograph session for fair attendees from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the race tent. Along with many driving legends, Karl Freyer will be participating in the autograph session, as a tribute car will be debuted at the Fair in his honor.
Drivers slated to sign autographs so far include: Jay Aten, Sammy Beavers, Ken Brenn Jr., Ken Brenn Sr., Bill Brown, Mike Corcoran, Wayne Covert, Fritz Epright, Mark Fusco, Del George, Dean Gulick, Bill Humphrey, Wyatt Jacobus, Danny Klockner, Bob Lammond, Ace Lane Jr., Ray Liss, John Menzak Jr., John Menzak III, Bing Metz, Blu Metz, Stan Ploski Jr., Joe Poliacik, Dominick Ragno, Brian Rozycki, Ricky Rutt, Mares Stellfox, Nate Strunk, and Manny Zilli.
