Somerset County Recycling Division is gradually rolling out a new Curbside Recycling practice and equipment, which began in August 2018, and will be completely implemented County-wide within the next four years. Every household will be receiving two new 65 gallon recycling “totes”. They have wheels to easily move around and have color-coded lids that are permanently attached (see images below).
Here are links to a flier on which recycling materials go in each tote, and a letter to residents which includes directions on what to do with your old buckets. Each household gets this info on their mailbox when their new totes are dropped off:
A fourth section of Montgomery is receiving its totes on August 16, 2019 for first use at pick-up on Friday, August 30th. This fourth section includes all households in a triangle east of Rt. 206, north of Rt. 518 (Washington Rd.), to south of Belle-Mead Griggstown Rd. and west of River Rd. (see map).
A third section of Montgomery received its totes in April 2019 for first use at pick-up on Friday, May 10th. This third section includes all households in a triangle west of Rt. 206, north of Orchard Rd and Skillman Road and east of Rt. 601 (see map).
A second section of Montgomery will received its totes in January, 2019. This second section is Southeastern Montgomery households (see map).
The first section of Montgomery received its totes and first use was in August, 2018. This section is Southwestern Montgomery households (see map).
No other sections of Montgomery are subject to the upgrade at this time. When your totes are dropped off you will also receive a letter, similar to the one linked below, from Somerset County Recycling Division with detailed instructions.
Montgomery Township does not have further information on what order or when other sections of Montgomery will be receiving totes, but within a few years, ALL households will be receiving the totes. You are advised to wait to receive your totes and letter.
The equipment that will collect these totes will employ a state-of the-art truck that not only services customers quickly, but also addresses the safety and health concerns of employees. The new technology eliminates the need to physically lift and dump the totes, reducing many injuries, particularly to the back and shoulder areas. These totes are supplied by Somerset County for the collection of RECYCLING ONLY.
