New Jersey Register Ready
Montgomery Township Health Department and Montgomery Township Office of Emergency Management encourage residents to sign up for the “New Jersey Register Ready” Registry. This registry is a safety net for residents who may find it difficult to evacuate during an emergency. Residents with special needs or caregivers on their behalf can sign up at registerready.nj.gov.
The New Jersey Special Needs Registry is free, voluntary, and strictly confidential. It is designed to help people who may have difficulty during an evacuation because of physical or cognitive limitations, language barriers or lack of transportation.
Registering will help first responders, such as police, fire and rescue squad personnel, make the best use of limited time and resources to help people with no other options for evacuation during an emergency. Residents without internet access can apply by printing out and mailing in to our Health Dept. this self-mailer form (CLICK HERE). Please mail to:

Special Needs Emergency Form
In addition to Register Ready, families with members with special needs can also provide emergency responders, in advance, with details about their loved ones. The person with special needs could be a child on the autism spectrum, an adult coping with emotional or behavioral distress, or an elderly parent living with dementia. We have developed a secure database with information about the special needs of a person, linked in Somerset County dispatch to the person’s physical address, using GIS technology. It provides helpful information about the type of handicap, I.D. worn by the person, and the medical providers and emergency contact of the party. When a call occurs, this information will be immediately available.

There is a program called Project Lifesaver which can quickly help find lost persons with certain disabilities such as Alzheimer’s disease or autism, BUT these residents must be registered ahead of time in the program. Local police assist with these searches. The program is run by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and the County Office on Aging.
