County to Expand Richard Hall Mental Health CenterPosted on June 22, 2021
The Somerset County Board of Commissioners announced construction has begun on a new series of medical and dental suites at the Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center (Richard Hall) in Bridgewater. The new suites will be staffed and operated by Zufall Health, allowing for integration of all aspects of care for Richard Hall clients in one facility. The new Zufall Clinic is expected to open around year’s end, at which time the facility will be officially changing its name to the Richard Hall Community Health and Wellness Center.
“Richard Hall has a reputation as a top-tier mental health care facility, and with this integration of Zufall’s primary and dental health care it will provide even greater service to its clients,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake, liaison to the Human Services department. “Mental health is intimately connected to physical health and having all these integrated services conveniently under one roof will mean better outcomes and lives for Richard Hall clients.”
Somerset County received a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Expansion Grant from the federal Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration in May of 2020 that targeted growing its integrated care programs. This grant allows Richard Hall to partner with Zufall Health to fully integrate medical, dental, mental health treatment, substance use treatment, and other wellness programs under one roof for the first time.
Richard Hall has worked with Zufall Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center, as one of its offsite partners for the past six years and developed an excellent working relationship over that time. Zufall’s extensive experience in providing primary medical and dental care for infants, children, adults, and older adults makes them the best partner for meeting the needs of Richard Hall clients and the larger Somerset County community.
“There is tremendous value in combining our two treatment plans and treatment teams to attend to the whole health of individuals,” said Richard Hall Executive Director Nicci Spinazzola. “As we integrated primary care and wellness activities into client care, it became apparent to us that this was an essential piece to the sustained recovery of those living with mental health and substance use challenges.”
Richard Hall is a public, not for profit behavioral healthcare system operated by Somerset County providing mental health and substance use treatment to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. In 1983 the facility was opened at its present location in Bridgewater and was named in honor of the County’s first Mental Health Administrator, Richard Hall. In 2009 the Center completed a renovation and addition project that doubled the physical plant in size to 50,000 square feet.
