Celebrate Earth Day with Somerset Freeholder at NewTech E-Waste CenterPosted on April 21, 2014
Somerset County Freeholder Patricia L. Walsh, solid waste management/recycling liaison, invites residents to celebrate Earth Day by dropping off electronic waste on Tuesday, April 22, from 7a.m. to Noon at WCTC radio station, located at 78 Veronica Ave., Somerset, NJ 08873. WCTC is a Greater Media Station.
“Somerset County employees look forward to meeting residents and sharing literature with them,” said Freeholder Walsh.
Residents can stop by the radio station to bring their “tough to recycle” items like old computers, TVs, servers, monitors, terminals/CRTs, televisions, printers, fax machines, copiers, computer/laptop peripherals, telecommunication equipment (telephones, cell phones/smartphones, telephone mainframes), keyboards, mice, cables, wiring, circuit boards, modems, power supplies, laptops, docking stations, audio visual equipment, electronic tablets, eReaders and chargers for electronic devices.
Also typewriters, VCRs, mainframe equipment and controllers, camcorders, CDs, DVDs, computer disks, diskettes, videotapes, cassette tapes, and rechargeable and button-cell batteries will be accepted. To avoid short-circuiting of batteries, residents should individually bag each battery or tape each terminal.
All electronic waste will be properly handled by Newtech Recycling Inc.
Somerset County residents can recycle e-waste year-round, free of charge, at Newtech Recycling Inc. on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Upcoming Saturday drop-off dates in 2014 are May 3, June 7, July 12, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6.
