Arbor Day Tree PlantingPosted on April 24, 2017
Montgomery Township and the Montgomery Shade Tree Committee celebrated Arbor Day by planting an American linden (Tilia americana “Redmond”), also known as a basswood, in the Montgomery Dog Park, a public facility for residents located behind the municipal building on Rt. 206. Surrounding the new planting are (l to r): Shade Tree Advisor Sarah Roberts, Shade Tree Committee Chairman Larry Koplik, and Mayor Ed Trzaska.
As they do each year, the Shade Tree Committee also conducted a special Arbor Day program for all 3rd graders in the Montgomery Twp. Public Schools at the Village School to educate the children about the important functions of trees. Several arborists also visited classrooms and demonstrated some of their equipment as part of the program. Each student received a dogwood seedling to take home to their family to plant as a special gift.
