Arbor Day Celebration ’19Posted on April 12, 2019
Montgomery Township Shade Tree Committee celebrated everything spring and leafy green on April 5th at The Montgomery Twp. Village Elementary School. Every third grade class was visited by an arborist and a volunteer who discussed the important benefits of trees. Many very astute questions were asked and if possible, answered, particularly about trees. Every student was given a tulip poplar seedling, caringly bundled by a corps of volunteers the night before. If cared for, tulip poplars can grow into 100′ tall in time!
Among the arborists who donated their time to teach the students were Bob Wells of Wells Tree and Landscape; Lou Spanner of Spanner Tree and Shrub Care, Inc. , Joseph Christopher of SilvaGuard, Inc., as well as Tim Bruchez of Princeton Tree Care. Principal Susan Lacy was on hand and even posed for a photo with two of the arborists under the beautiful tree mural in the front vestibule of The Village Elementary School (see album below.)
The next good weather day, Mayor Sadaf Jaffer, Administrator Donato Nieman, staff, and members of the Shade Tree Committee took part in a special tree planting ceremony in Montgomery Arboretum, next to Montgomery Veterans Park. The plantings included two white fringe trees, which are lovely medium-sized fragrant trees with beautiful spring blooms.
