CLUSTER OF COVID-19 CASES IN HILLSBOROUGH A NEW REASON FOR CAUTION IN MONTGOMERY

On Friday Hillsborough Mayor Doug Tomson put out an advisory regarding “several instances of probable test positives of COVID-19 occurring in Hillsborough Township.  The initial index case was at DC Gymnastics.”

According to Montgomery Health Officer Stephanie Carey, this Hillsborough cluster is impacting multiple towns, including Montgomery, since the facility attracts families from around the area. Several Montgomery cases and dozens of close contacts are associated with the situation, so the numbers may grow.

“We are seeing a big increase in contact tracing in Montgomery as a result of this recreation facility’s incident. This means it is extremely important for Montgomery residents to be extra cautious about participating in group events. Please maintain social distance, wear masks, and wash hands frequently as measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” Officer Carey said.

According to Officer Carey, Montgomery residents have been cooperating at a very high level when called by the Health Department for contact tracing, which helps health officials identify at-risk individuals so that they can be quarantined to slow the spread of COVID-19. She asks residents to continue to cooperate, particularly as the weather cools and people spend more time indoors.

“With fall activities starting to resume, and cooler weather bringing us indoors, it’s essential that we all do our part to mask up, continue social distancing, and avoid crowded events.  What each of us does right now will make all the difference in the weeks to come,” Ms. Carey added.

The Covid-19 hotline number of the Montgomery Health Dept. is 908-533-9319.
