PREVIOUS RELEASE – 2/19/20
The Montgomery Township School District formed a committee comprised of teachers and administrators that explored the feasibility of full day kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. After a detailed analysis of the 2020-2021 proposed budget was completed, it was determined that it is not feasible for the School District to implement full day Kindergarten for the upcoming school year. However, a potential agreement between the Montgomery Township Municipality and the School District could create a solution for families wanting an all-day kindergarten experience for the 2020-2021 school year.
Acting Superintendent of Schools Mary McLoughlin stated, “Ideally we would like our program to include full day kindergarten. However, such a financial commitment would significantly impact our current programming. For now, we are glad to partner with the Township to give parents a high-quality educational option for their kindergarten-aged children.”
The School District asked that the Township consider renewing the Kindergarten Enrichment portion of the current Kid Connection program to complement the public school district’s regular morning or afternoon half-day kindergarten. If approved by both governing bodies, the enrichment program would be held in the current Kid Connection building and the teachers and teaching assistants would consist of highly qualified members of the current Kid Connection staff. The district would provide transportation to the students who participate in the program. As previously announced, the Kid Connection pre-school, and before- and after-school programs will end with the 2019-20 school year.
“We were approached by the Board of Ed and the public school administration, who were seeking ways to offer an option now, since all-day kindergarten class time has been a desire of many parents. We believe we have a viable solution,” said Mayor Sadaf Jaffer.
If approved, the School District will coordinate registration with Montgomery Township and sign-ups will occur simultaneously with Orchard Hill Elementary School Kindergarten registration, which will begin March 23, 2020.
For more information on the Kindergarten Enrichment Program, please contact Director Andrea McKenna at firstname.lastname@example.org or (908) 359-2111. For more information on public school half-day Kindergarten registration, please contact Orchard Hill Elementary School at: (609) 466-7605.
For families also desiring before-school and/or after-school care, the School District will continue to offer a program through their partnership with the YMCA of Princeton. More at: https://www.mtsd.k12.nj.us/Page/11707
