TODAY’S COVID-19 CASE SUMMARY

There have been eighteen (18) new cases in Montgomery/Rocky Hill since our last report on Friday, 11-20-20.  Full report at the end of this e-bulletin.

 


 

18 NEW MONTGOMERY CASES, PLUS 37 NEW AT CARRIER

Eighteen more Montgomery residents tested positive for COVID-19, continuing a steady trend. Separately, the reported size of the outbreak among staff and patients at the Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead has grown by 37 to a total of 89 cases, split between two units of the behavioral health facility. In response, state inspectors are working with the clinic; Hackensack Meridian, owner of the clinic, has sent additional infection control specialists.

Montgomery Township Health Officer Stephanie D. Carey describes the current situation as “exponential, community spread, with most cases not having a clear exposure.” Because it is difficult to trace positive cases to certain exposures, it becomes even more important for the public to minimize interactions outside of their immediate households, and to wear masks and social distance when doing necessary errands.


 

TAKE THE MONTGOMERY COVID-SAFE PLEDGE TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY

Last week the Montgomery Board of Health voted to launch a voluntary “Montgomery COVID-Safe Pledge” to encourage residents to commit to following public health guidelines for staying safe during the surging pandemic.

Modeled after an initiative in Princeton, the COVID-Safe Pledge asks residents and businesses to make 10 commitments beginning with a pledge to

Value the health of others as well as our own health as we go about our essential activities, such as necessary healthcare, schooling, work, and local business. In this way, these activities can be AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE for EVERYONE until there is a safe, effective and available vaccine and/or an adequate treatment to prevent or cure infection, disease, or serious outcomes of disease.

Other commitments involve following public health rules on wearing masks, maintaining social distance, cooperating with contact tracing, and isolating and quarantining when necessary. You can read the full pledge here.

“Until a safe and effective vaccine or anti-viral treatment is available for widespread use, the best thing we can do as individuals and as a community is prevent the spread of the disease,” said Dr. Jeremy Grayson, President of the Board of Health. “The Montgomery Board of Health feels this pledge reaffirms our community’s commitment to ourselves, family, friends, neighbors, and society.”

Although the Pledge doesn’t require a public affirmation of support, the Board of Health encourages people to share their commitment on social media, to encourage other people to do the same. Easy links for sharing are available after you read the full pledge.


 

FREE MOBILE APP NOTIFIES OF COVID EXPOSURE

 

COVID Alert NJ is a free mobile app that anonymously alerts users if they have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. It uses Bluetooth technology to identify people who have been with six feet of a person who has tested positive. NJ STATE HEALTH CARE EXCHANGE NOW OPEN

Open enrollment under New Jersey’s state-run health care exchange under the Affordable Care Act is now open. If you need an affordable health care plan for 2021, visit getcovered.nj.gov to review plan options and learn if you qualify for financial assistance.

The State of New Jersey recently created this new program to provide additional financial help to residents to lower the cost of health coverage.  Nearly 8 out of 10 New Jersey residents will qualify for cost saving options that significantly reduce the cost of quality health insurance. a “Presumed recovered” means cases that have met the criteria for discontinuation of isolation. A minimum of 10 days from diagnosis, or three days after symptoms resolve, whichever is longer. This definition represents a change from earlier in the pandemic before the CDC provided a definition.
