Fall
Season: Leaves & Yard Clean-up
We
would like to remind residents that they are not permitted to place
leaves into the roadways. Montgomery Township does not have a leaf disposal
program; residents are responsible for disposal of their leaves. Stormwater
regulations do not permit leaves to be placed in the road or in storm
drains. We must ensure the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians
who travel Township roadways and sidewalks.
Here are some guidelines:
•
Keep leaves out of storm drains and out of the street.
• Follow Montgomery’s yard waste disposal rules for things
such as holiday tree or tree branch drop-off. Check Container
Facility and Bulletins
webpage or contact Public Works at 908-874-3144.
• Use a mulching mower that recycles grass clippings & leaves
into the lawn.
• Use leaves as a resource for compost.
Somerset
County conducts a volunteer program to assist the elderly with yard
and leaf clean-up every fall. Contact the Somerset County Office of
Volunteer Services at (908) 541-5715 or check our Bulletins webpage
or newsletter for announcements.
Winter
Season brings Snowfall
While falling snow is beautiful to behold, and children and adults alike
enjoy many entertainment activities that a snowfall affords, the reality
of
snow removal is a challenge we all encounter. The following information
is being offered to residents in order to help cope during snow events:
For
safety sake, please keep all children away from streets and out of the
way of snow plows. The drivers of such trucks sit high and it should
not be assumed that they will see a child playing in or near the street.
Montgomery
Township has a "No Parking on Street during Snow Emergencies"
ordinance that is strictly enforced.
If possible, try not to shovel your driveway until your street has been
completely plowed. The Public Works Department will attempt to clear
the center of the street first, then each side.
When shoveling your driveway, do not blow or shovel the snow from your
driveway or walk into the street. Place snow on the left side of the
driveway (as you look at the house) so that when the plow comes along,
the snow is not plowed into your driveway, but rather pulled away from
it.
Try to stock up on necessary items such as food, fuel, oil, etc. Restrict
travelling until the roads have been cleared.
Do not place trash cans or recycling cans out until the plows have passed.
If you must put them out, place them well back from the curb line, so
the plows do not hit them. Also, please remove empty cans as soon as
possible.
Thank
you to all our residents for helping us do our best for you when the
snow falls.
